Melissa Reiff , Chief Executive Officer

For more than two decades with The Container Store, Melissa has served in numerous key leadership roles, rising to Chief Operating Officer in 2013 and then to Chief Executive Officer in 2016 leading the company’s more than 5,000 employees. She has served on the company’s board of directors since 2007.

Throughout her career, Melissa has focused on enhancing and strengthening the company’s unique, people-first culture centered on its values-based Foundation Principles. The 7th Foundation Principle – Communication IS Leadership – a discpline she brought to the company, was added in 2008 in her honor for her devotion to this vital component of The Container Store’s culture. 

As CEO, Melissa has spearheaded The Container Store’s five-year strategic plan, which includes goals-driven restructuring initiatives and the implementation of key efficiency and effectiveness programs across the company. During her tenure as CEO, the company continues to earn recognition as one of Fortune’s “Top 100 Best Companies to Work For,” and she has been honored several times for her leadership acumen by D CEO Magazine. In 2015, she was named as one of 25 executives on “The List of People Shaping Retail’s Future” by the National Retail Federation. 

Melissa serves on the board of directors of Etsy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ETSY); on the executive board of her alma mater, Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business; and as a sustaining member of the Junior League of Dallas. She is a recipient of the SMU Cox School of Business Distinguished Alumna award.  

Sharon Tindell , President & Chief Merchandising Officer

Sharon has been with The Container Store since its earliest days. She has served as Chief Merchandising Officer since 2006 and added the role of President in 2016.

As leader of and visionary for The Container Store’s merchandising function, Sharon is the steward of the company’s original concept of offering an exceptional and eclectic mix of products devoted to helping people organize their lives and maximize their space. She has guided the development of exclusive and proprietary products, the store format and design, and the visual impact of the customer shopping experience. Sharon also oversees the company’s custom closet solutions, supply chain and logistics, and its international subsidiary, Elfa, for whom she serves as Chairman on the board of directors.

Sharon is married to the company’s co-founder and chairman, William A. (“Kip”) Tindell, III and joined the company full time shortly after its establishment in 1978. She began her career in sales and inventory and was the company’s first designated buyer in 1981.

In addition to her directorships with The Container Store companies, Sharon serves on the board of directors of the Perot Museum of Nature & Science. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in landscape architecture.

Jodi Taylor , Chief Financial Officer and Administrative Officer

Leveraging more than three decades of experience, Jodi leads The Container Store’s accounting and financial operations. She also has direct responsibility for investor relations, real estate, procurement, payroll and benefits, legal, travel, store facilities, risk management, loss prevention and other critical functions. She guided the company through its initial public offering in 2013. 

Previously, Jodi spent a decade at Harold’s, serving as Chief Financial Officer and Secretary. Highlights of her tenure there were her efforts in enhancing capital structure, reducing costs and improving cash flow by streamlining processes and systems. Earlier in her career, she spent 11 years at The Baby Superstore, rising from Accounting Manager to Chief Financial Officer and Secretary, while guiding the company through an initial public offering and major merger. She began her career as an auditor with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche).

Jodi, an Iowa native, is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She is a Certified Public Accountant.

Melissa Collins , Chief Marketing Officer

As The Container Store’s Chief Marketing Officer, Melissa serves as guardian of the company’s brand, and is continually focused on strengthening and elevating it among all stakeholders. She is the company’s primary marketing strategist, and oversees such key functional areas as brand positioning, advertising, public relations, digital marketing, visual merchandising, ecommerce, social media and POP!, the customer engagement and loyalty program.

Melissa’s “retail is detail” philosophy has been honed throughout her 21-year career with The Container Store, during which she has assumed roles with increasing responsibility – beginning as Art Director and progressing to such positions as Senior Director of Creative and Online Services, and Vice President of Creative and Online.

An essential component of her marketing philosophy is to create emotional connections between customers and the company’s 10,000+ products, leveraging such tactically-advanced components as data analytics and omni-channel technologies. This way of thinking has led to the launch of "Where Space Comes From," The Container Store’s new brand campaign, which launched in July 2018 to coincide with the company’s 40th anniversary. She also oversees the presentation of products, in-store campaign support, and store layouts to ensure store and online presentations are cohesive and provide a consistent experience for customers.

A native of Canada, Melissa is a graduate of The Alberta College of Art with a degree in visual communications.

Eva Gordon , Executive Vice President of Stores & Employee Development

A retail industry veteran with more than three decades of experience, Eva is devoted to improving The Container Store experience – for customers and employees alike.

She manages the day-to-day operations of the company’s 92 stores, encompassing such critical areas of responsibility as store operations, employee training and development, call center, installation, and Contained Home, its in-home organization service. In her employee development role, she oversees programs focused on the engagement, training and career development of The Container Store’s more than 6,000 employees – enabling them to be the company’s most devoted brand ambassadors. Previously, she served as Vice President of Stores, Training & Development and Recruiting.

Eva joined The Container Store in 2006 after 10-year stints at each of two esteemed specialty apparel retailers: Mark Shade and Harold’s. Her experience in all aspects of retail operations – as a store, district and regional manager – has honed her skills as a highly-regarded expert in building The Container Store’s strong company culture, which is focused on exceptional customer service, employee career nurturing and a continual commitment to excellence. 

A native of Atlanta, Eva is a graduate of Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in marketing.

John Thrailkill , Executive Vice President of IT and Business Development

John ensures that The Container Store leverages advanced technologies and systems to support its brand purpose of helping customers accomplish projects, maximize their space, and make the most of their home.  

In his role leading the technology and business development functions, he is responsible for developing the strategy and deploying the solutions required to bring it to life. Working closely with all areas of the business, John and his team ensure that the company’s IT systems and processes offer the tools available to create an exceptional and consistent omnichannel experience– stores, e-commerce and call center.

John has spent his entire career with The Container Store, joining the company in 1991 in a sales position. He has served in a variety of leadership capacities across the enterprise, in such areas as store management, sales management, operations, training and marketing. Among the many highlights of his tenure: leading the development and launch of the company’s website; and serving as one of the company’s first Super Sales Trainers. Prior to his current position, he was Vice President of Store Systems, Customer Support & Business Development.

He is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications.

Gretchen Ganc , Executive Vice President of Strategy and Analytics

Since joining The Container Store in December 2017, Gretchen has been responsible for leveraging data to drive new insights that lead to better decision-making across the enterprise. Her duties include supporting key performance management processes, such as monthly operating and strategic reviews, as well as partnering with leadership on high-priority initiatives to ensure resources are fully optimized. She is also responsible for leading other value-creating opportunities for the company including pricing, testing, and Business Solutions.

Previously, Gretchen was with JCPenney in multiple leadership roles including Vice President of Corporate Strategy & Business Development and Vice President of Customer Analytics, Insights & Strategy. She also held leadership positions with other retailers including Fossil Group and Ann Taylor. Earlier in her career, she served as a strategy consultant with Bain & Company and as an investment banker with Credit Suisse First Boston.

Gretchen is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in finance and computer applications. She earned her master’s degree in business administration from Dartmouth College.

John Gehre , Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Planning

John Gehre was named Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Planning in June 2018 with responsibility for The Container Store’s product assortment, inventory allocation, global sourcing initiatives and private label strategy. 

Prior to joining The Container Store, John gained extensive experience in merchandise planning, product development, omni-channel marketing, and supply chain with some the retail industry’s most successful companies, including H-E-B, BJ’s Wholesale, Linens ‘n Things, Saks Fifth Avenue and Federated.

He is also involved in philanthropic endeavors as a member of the board of directors of Global Market Development Center (GMDC), a trade association serving more than 600 retailers, wholesalers, suppliers and service/solution member companies; and Mission Road Ministries, which aides adults and children with intellectual development disabilities.

John is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
